Federal Reimbursement Program Begins
July 1, 2010
July 1, 2010 – SOUTHFIELD, Michigan – EHIM is informing all clients that the Federal government is now accepting applications for the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP). A limited amount of funding has been set aside for this program so all qualifying programs are encouraged to act quickly.
The ERRP is a new program introduced in the Affordable Care Act which will reimburse a portion of employers’ costs of providing health coverage to early retirees (defined as age 55 or older and not eligible for coverage under Medicare), their spouses and dependents. Funding for this program is limited to $5 billion and the program runs from June 2010 through January 1, 2014. Employers and unions that maintain, whether directly or through an insurer, an employment-based plan that provides health benefits to early retirees may apply to participate.
The program is intended to increase access to health care by making health benefits more affordable.
The application is available online. EHIM encourages our clients who may qualify for this program to contact their counsel or advisors with any questions regarding the ERRP program or the application and not miss the opportunity to take advantage of this program.
